RGSS2 Window Troubles

I've written this code that displays 3 windows when you click on a certain event.

$enemy_1 = Window_Enemy.new(0,0, 544,
416/3, 1)
$enemy_2 = Window_Enemy.new(0,416/3, 544,
416/3, 2)
$enemy_3 = Window_Enemy.new(0,832/3, 544,
416/3, 3)
(Window_Enemy is a subclass of Window_Base)

And then self-switch A is turned on, which activates page 2 of the event (the "trigger" of which is a parallel process).
Right now, I simply want it such that if I press the UP key, all three windows created earlier are disposed, and self-switch A is turned OFF.

if Input.press?(Input::UP)
$enemy_1.dispose
$enemy_2.dispose
$enemy_3.dispose
key = [1,3,"A"] # where 1 = map ID, 3 = event ID, and A = self-switch
$game_self_switches[key] = false
end

This doesn't work, however, and I get the "disposed window" error message. Any ideas where I'm going wrong? Thanks in advance!

(I know I could use a conditional branch event command instead of the above 'if' condition, but I figured it'd be useful to know what was going on.)

Choice Makes You Unhappy

To quote from this article:

Modern life is making us miserable because we have too much choice, claims new research.

From the foods we eat, to the television channels we watch, to the schools we send our children too and the career we choose to pursue, society has never offered us so much variety.

But while the ability to choose is generally a good thing, too much freedom of choice is crippling us with indecision and making us unhappy, claims the new research.

People can become paralysed by too much variety and wracked with uncertainty and regret about whether they have made the right decision.

Ultimately they can be less satisfied by the choices they have made.

I couldn't agree with this more. I'm almost NEVER satisifed with the choices I make with regards to career plans, food, clothing, the music I listen to, pretty much anything really. I also can't help feeling that I'd be happier if I didn't have so many options available.

What does RMN think? Would we better off in developing countries where there is less choice, or as, idk, robots? Or is unhappiness through freedom of choice the fault of indecisive people?

RPG Maker 2000 VALUE! Font Problems

As I want to be able to play .mp3s with rm2k I thought it'd be a good idea to try the VALUE! patch. Installing it caused my in-game font to get messed up, though, and installing the fonts provided with the patch didn't help.
Reinstalling RM2k brings the font back to normal, however I am then unable to play .mp3s so I'm back to square one.

Anyone know of a good workaround? (besides using another Maker) Thanks in advance.

Guess who got their YMO collection back? :D

RGSS2 - Enemy Stats

How do I access, say, the HP of an enemy in a certain Troop via RGSS2? I'm guessing the RPG::Enemy data class has something to do with it but I'm not too sure where to go from there.

Help would be much appreciated. Happy holidays!

So how do you like your backstory?

I've been thinking about making this topic for a while but I've been struggling with phrasing, but seeing as I'm pretty bored now I thought I might as well give it a go.

I finished Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars yesterday for the umpteenth time and one thing that struck me this time round was the colossal amount of background information concerning characters, mechs and past notable incidents, presented in the form of references accessible through the options menu. Granted a good amount of it was never mentioned in the game itself (FoM was merely a spin-off after all, a few plot elements in the original 'Zone of the Enders' game were included in one of the references for that reason I'm guessing), but reading about the motives of villains and tragic pasts of characters made their actions much more interesting. Additionally it made the dialogue in FoM feel more natural (or as natural as it could be, with a localisation that was pretty erratic in terms of quality, but hey it was a 2001 game from a franchise that no one seemed to care about because they stink - oops I am ranting sorry). Most importantly though, in my opinion, it prevented the need for flashbacks (a pet-peeve of mine - as they are (a) frequently done horribly in Japanese games and those inspired by them, i.e. amateur RPGs (weren't they a huge problem in Naufragar? I don't remember) and (b) illogical in terms of point-of-view, but I'm probably the only one who cares about that point).

So my question to you is: when it comes to character backstory, would you prefer references like the one in the aforementioned game which you can read in your own time, or are you more of a flashback person? Or perhaps you're a fan of villains that explain how they were abused as children while the protagonists either lie tied-up next to a tree or for some reason just stand around instead instead of beating the living shit out of them (in which case do not post here you're not welcome - just kidding)

p.s. please don't say well-done

Nerd Test

Go go go

This is what I got:

(Don't take this too seriously, by the way)

byeeeeeee~

I wasn't planning on making a farewell topic ever, but having attempted to leave the community several times (unsuccessfully, clearly) I thought this would be a good idea - after all who can stand the dishonour of crawling back to their comrades after (possibly foolishly) deserting them? Seeing as I am not at all a fan of being the centre of attention I will make this as quick as possible:

- Who am I kidding? I can't stand 99.9% of commercial RPGs let alone amateur ones. Definitely can't be bothered making one. As a result I rarely have anything to add to, or gain from discussion here - no offense to you guys, obviously, most of you're amazing at what you do. It's just that I have no real interest in RM anymore.
- Exam season (hurray!). Seeing as this set will decide my destination upon graduation (no more school yesss) I really need to do as well as I can for once. This means I will have to keep distractions to a bare minimum.

That is all. Best of luck in your RPG Making endeavours! May the e-Force be with you.

Can you name all the Pokémon Characters (Generation 1)?

I only got 102. My memory's worse than I thought; I hit myself on the head a fair few times when I realised I forgot pokes like TANGELA and HITMONLEE
